We are back from Maison & Objet!

Hello everyone,

WALPA is back from Maison & Objet 2016 in Paris.

We have seen many new exciting wallpaper and products.

Some booths were real standouts and today I would like to focus on one brand in particular Koziel.

Coming from the theatre and stage design world the French designer’s flair to create atmospheres and ambiances is outstanding.

His booths are always a delight to visit and totally immersive. This is like being in a different world, completely disconnected from the outside world.

This year Christophe Koziel, the designer and owner of the company, has decided to introduce a whole new collection called Fantomatik.

Born from his love for inhabited spaces this new collection of fabrics, rugs, lunch mats and wallpaper is based on distressed tin tiles, herringbone and wooden patterns.

The extensive range of patterns, sizes and materials allows for an unlimited amount of possibilities.

The collection is not finished yet and may be subjected to some changes.

Just a taste of things to come.

Fall selection.

Good afternoon to all wallpaper lovers.

The wind gets cooler and cooler, the days are shorter and the temperature is dropping.

Fall is definitely upon us.

With the weather getting more pleasant this is a great time for DIY projects.

How about some redecorating and wallpaper hanging?

I have selected a few wallcoverings that definitely smell of Fall.

Back from the European 60’s / 70’s here is some soothing vintage wallpaper.

Retro wallpaper is back and a fine addition to your interior.

Looking for something a bit warmer?

Mineheart lovable wallpaper collection is an unique blend of modernism and tradition.

Every piece si carefully crafted to inspire, tell a story, express a poetic notion or just make us smile.

The brand name itself is rooted in Shakespearian English and reinforce the playfulness of the British design studio.

A few of their new products:

Daniel Heath has a fascination for the weird and the wonderful and it shows in his designs.

For instance these seemingly beautiful birds are in fact pinned, stuffed and preserved in static macabre.

The wonder and spectacle of the circus and the whimsical imagery of Victorian inspires Daniel’s Amazing Jumbo design.

Peer inside the big top style illustration and see horses and elephants playfully perform.

At last but not least here is Hannah Nunn.

Her Beech Leaves wallpaper is inspired by a rainy morning walk when she sheltered under a low hanging beech canopy.

” I loved the way the light shone through the leaves to create overlapping shadows.”

The ink has  a subtle sheen and really is beautiful when it catches the light.

Paper Meadow is a wistful, dreamy meadow full of grasses, cow parsleys and dandelions clocks.

A nice touch for this Fall decoration.

Brand focus.

Hi folks,

Today I would like to focus on one of my favorite brand Little Owl from the Netherlands.

Little Owl’s world is quite unique and totally unlike any other and cannot quite be compared.

The wallpaper is complementary to the rest of their work.

Mixing tradition and new technologies this wallpaper series is organic, subtle and original.

The collection is really hard to describe and it is better to let you check it by yourself.

Enjoy and don’t forget to drop by WALPA and check out the real thing in our stores!

WALPA was here (Heimtextil)

WALPA is back from its hit and run mission in Frankfurt.

The Heimtextil fair is a well established event and the largest of its kind when it comes to wallpaper, wallcoverings and new printing technologies.

It is an exciting and busy show where the wallpaper world collides. Contrary to Maison & Objet, Heimtextil is not aimed at end users but professionals. This is a really unique chance to check the temperature and the new trends.

The site in itself is huge and WALPA had the difficult task to make the most out of single day we had on the ground.

Here is a short recap’ (are not included spoilers, new brands and new designs that still have to go public).

Expect a lot of exciting things popping up soon in WALPA.

The deceivingly small looking entrance:

Graham & Brown stylish booth is the perfect example of what a booth should look like.

Not too large, welcoming and easy to navigate through.

It is not overwhelming and let you breathe. Each design has its space and is a pleasure to look at.

Below are some new designs that we cannot wait to see in Japan. The Star Wars collection is a sure hit.

Moving on to the German wallpaper giants Rasch.

11 new exciting collections introduced in a booth the size of a convenient store.

Impressive, bold and yet stylish.

Accent has been put on the textures and it shows on the multiple skin designs available.

My favorite is the “Banana Leaf” wallpaper which is a different take on the classic Martinique Wallpaper. The realistic feel adds a new dimension to a timeless pattern.

We have found a bunch of interesting collections and will keep you posted.

Now on to Koziel.

The French masters of the trompe l’oeil wallpaper and fabrics.

A “young” and small company which had succeeded at creating a niche in the wallpaper world.

Koziel is unique and sets the trends…other people follow!

The chimney below is actually a fabric panel and the bookshelves wallpaper.

Koziel universe mixes a modern industrial vibe with an antique flair.

Bricks, metal plates, bookshelves and more…check it all out here!

There is so much more but I am not allowed to report yet…

The next day was spent in the small town of Kassel.

About an 1:30 from Frankfurt the Wallpaper Museum of Kassel is the home of more 9000 wallpaper designs…or so we have been told.

The main part of the museum is closed for renovation since…2008 and is nobody seems to know it will reopen.

We were still lucky to be able to enjoy the temporary exhibit wandlust.

Interesting to see old pattern books and a short history of wallpaper.
